Kuala Lumpur and our first Couchsurfing experience

It was sad leaving Thailand, but we were finally ready to see a big city as Kuala Lumpur and try couchsurfing for the first time.

We were out to about 4 am, and had to get ut at 7 am so that we could pack, check out and get some breakfast before going on the boat until 9am.So belive it or not, we made the boat 🙂  We were really tired so we were looking forward to sleep on the boat, but there was hard-core rock music playing from a TV. It was horrible!!  We just needed some sleep. We had a 20-hour-trip from Phi Phi to Kuala Lumpur, and it was some long 20 hours. At first we had the boat and then a mini van for about 7 hours. We thought that we would have a luxury bus for all those hours, but wrong again, we only had the luxury bus for about 4 hours.
This was our first time trying Couchsurfing, and we were really excited and scared at the same time. We did not know what we were going in to. We had texted to munawar at CS and he seemed like a nice guy, so we were looking forward to finally meeting him. Mun picked us up when we arrived in KL about 4 am in the morning. We went to his apartment that he shared with Olga and Alex from Russia, a very nice couple.  Mun was actually so nice that he slept on the floor in the living room while we got his room. Lucky us!

In the morning Mun told us that he was gonna host another girl also, Julia from Germany. So we had to pick her up before we went to see the Thaipusam, the Hindu festival. It was totally crowded at the festival and the humidity was high. It was so many Hindu people there and the worst part with this festival is that it’s all about suffering… That means that some men were carrying big decorations which were attached with hooks to their bodies…not a nice sight.

In the evening Mun wanted to take us out to show us the nightlife of KL. He took us to different places, but the one we liked was Reggae bar, which we stayed at for the rest of the night. It was the newest and hippest place to be 🙂  Everyone was there and some of Mun`s CS friends were there too so we were quite the crowd.

We were walking the street of KL the next day when we suddenly passed the KL’s version of Fast and The Furious. It was amazing to see all thess cars. All the equipment and speakers they had was just crazy. Every car had their own music on so it was very noisy.

But the main reason we were here was to see the tallest flag-pole in the world.

At Mun`s place there was no refrigerator, so every meal we ate out, and one of the best meals were breakfast 🙂 It was so delicious. It was pancakes with different  type of currys. So if you ever travel to Malaysia, you have to try it!

breakfast: pancake with fish curry, chicken curry and chilli curry

After breakfast we were always ready to see the city. We went to the Petronas Twin Towers. They are one of the worlds tallest towers.

We were so lucky to have Mun with us as our guide all over KL. So he was so kind to fix us some tickets up to the sky-bridge. It was on the 42nd floor.  This was actually Mun`s 80th time there. He has been out sightseeing with a lot of CS…hehe! He is a really good guide 🙂 We recommend him to everybody 😉

And of  course we had to see the Petronas Twin Towers at night,  just beautiful to watch.

We had to take a group photo of all of us. So in the picture you have Alex, Olga, Julia, Silje, Silje and Mun. It was awesome meeting all of you and we had a great time with you guys.  Let us know when you are coming to Norway 🙂
